Fifth generation port producer, Dirk van der Niepoort pushed this venerable house further into the “new” territory of still wines. His Niepoort “Projectos” wines include this single varietal Bastardo (Trousseau or Trousseau Noir if you’re from eastern France). Bastardo can find it’s way into port, but here it shows as a deep cherry/red berry wine. Ripe, smooth, and well made. Not a complex wine, but delicious just the same.
($25 purchased in Lisbon) Very good (considering the price)
